Marta Núñez Pouzols on Her Poems
These two poems belong to the manuscript The Giant Squid, in which individual poems build an abstracted narrative about the arrival of a giant squid to a world that is both dystopian and fairy tale-like. Characters such as the squid itself, a captive bride, a psychiatrist, and a diviner who sees the future through mollusks, participate in an experimental allegory of grief. These poems simultaneously explore my mother’s last days and our complicated relationship.
