Ginna Luck on Her Poems

It's My Job

I started this poem with the end line of the one before. I am working on a collection of weird poems about a breakup. A lot of my poems go on about bugs and birds and creepy crawlers. I love finding words that sound interesting together but don't quite make sense (but do!). That's what drove this poem, and many others. My poems almost always portray the dark inner life of myself or someone I'm imagining. Mostly, I'm obsessed with language and spending hours and hours working out small and intricate details like a puzzle. I don't like moving fast. I go slow and my poems take me a very long time to finish.

Our Fog Hearts Scramble in Total Darkness

This poem started out much longer and got cut down. It is from a collection about a breakup. In this particular poem, I wrote the very first words that came to my mind then went back and cut it way down. I'm drawn to language that is dark, weird, and sad, so that's what this poem became.
