Warren C. Longmire on his poems

These poems are from a recent collection experiment exploring...well...flags. Words as flags and flags as the words they imply. Images of claim, colonisation, and conquest in the same way language puts a stamp on who is and is not acceptable. The voice of these two poems stay in a very polite, always correct, hermetically sealed tone of a particular type of educated whiteness, one that assumes a practiced kindness separates itself from appropriation and white supremacy. It's a Jordan Peele or an Ari Aster kind of horror poem, one that is couched in the obliviousness and cold, hard fact of white privilege.
