Joseph Goosey on his Poems
MAINLINING THE BRINK is a book-length poem in progress. It began as a meditation (as they say) on the fact that there are around four thousand (and likely counting down) tigers left in the wild. Shortly after I began the poem, the International Union for Conservation of Nature issued a report concluding there are 42,100 species faced with extinction as of 2022, after which the poem started to sprawl. This tragedy in progress is largely a result of human activity. If that's not spooky as hell, please tell me what is.
Speaking of hell, “Stations of the Cross Bonus Footage” and “Am I Way Too High Right Now” are both from a batch of poems I gathered up after realizing that, though I have little else but total disdain for the church itself, Catholic imagery creeps up more often in my poems than intended. “Am I Way Too High Right Now” can also be considered "after" Lars von Trier's 2018 film, The House That Jack Built.
